The Birth of Jesus: The Canticles (Songs)
Hail Mary: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. (Luke 1: 28ff)
Mary's Song: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord. (Luke 1: 46ff)
Canticle of Zecariah: Blessed be the God of Israel for he has brought redemption to his people." (Luke 1: 68ff)
Canticle of Simeon: Master, now you can let your servant go in peace... (Luke 2: 29ff)
Dr. Dale will explore the narrative of the Birth of Jesus in Luke's gospel in a series of lectures during the month of October. While the entire infancy narrative will be covered, special attention will be given to the above well known canticles. These songs foreshadow and announce major themes that St. Luke incorporates in his Gospel.
Dr. Dale holds the Master of Arts in Theology from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium and a Doctorate in Sacred Liturgy from San Anselmo in Rome.
Beginning Tuesday, November 3, Joe Keochler will offer a Scripture Study for men entitled: The Church in the Acts of the Apostles and Letters of St. Paul. Concurrently, Joan Koechler will offer a Scripture Study for ladies entitled: Women in the Scriptures.
Joe and Joan are members of Our Lady of Lourdes and bring a wealth of insight and knowledge of the Scriptures and Theology. Joe holds the STL (License in Sacred Theology) from the Jesuit Theology Faculty at the University of Innsbruk, Austria. Joan served for many years in the Amytiville Dominican religious community and has worked extensively in Catholic education. Joe is co-author of the book, Toward a Theology of Christian Faith.
